Question:

Which one is better? Naturally the bachelors since one would become more intelligent. However do you make nearly the same with an associates?

Answer:

You’re talking about two entirely different academic designations. One requiring two academic years, (or even study in a storefront university), vs. study in a university resulting in a baccalaureate degree.
Answer your own question with logic and reasoning. That is what real nurses have to do. To help you with your question: who knows more, a 9th grade graduate or a 12th grade graduate? Who knows more, a 12th grade-high school graduate, or someone studying for their GED test?
ok, I am ready to enter nursing school in Oregon, so I cannot speak for the state you are in..But here, I can either enter a 4 year school as a junior or an associates program which will also take two years, I am applying to both but will take the one which accepts me. One reason is because I can complete my education later if I want to go on, I can work in what I want with either degree and at this moment, the pay is the same(at least in Oregon) regardless of which degree you have. I have spoke to several nursing supervisors at different hospitals and they have in fact told me they have hired better nurses from the CC I attend than from the better four year programs and the graduates score as well or better on the board (they keep the records at the college) so I feel that whether or not I do a two year or four year, I will still be a good nurse and no dumber than the others. If I doubted my intellect I would not go into this field
You presume that a Bachelors of NURSING makes you more intelligent than an Associates of NURSING?
A pedigree doesn’t confer intelligence, nor ability. It’s a symbol of achievement. And no.. my first degree was NOT in nursing. I did an associates in nursing (when I had all the prereqs for a BSN course) in my situation because it meant I was able to work OVERTIME, let alone full time while in my paramedic-rn mobility studies. Meant a lot to me to own my nursing degree and not have to finance it and my life for 2 years. Do not presume owning a degree MAKES you more intelligent by simple possession.
And.. at the bedside I’ve seen diploma nurses run circles around book smart honor students.. You can only theorize your way sooo much when its time to get to WORK.
It’s not so easy to go back to school and complete your education later, especially after you get used to having a steady income and being able to afford stuff. I know an ADN who wishes she had gotten a bachelor’s instead, but she is not about to go back to school now. It is true that it is never too late to go back to school, but not every one is retired with nothing else to do, like I am, or willing to work and go to school at the same time, like some of the people in my BSN cl. Part time, on line, and distance learning programs exist to complete your education, but these are not suited to everyone either.
You have to figure out for yourself whether an associate’s is enough for your long range career plans, or whether you will require a bachelor’s or advanced degree later. If you wind up doing ADN, then BSN, then this is almost certainly going to mean more total course work and more elapsed time than if you had gotten the BSN straight away.
By the way, you will never complete your education. Education is a life long activity. Every time I go back to school, the women are younger and better looking. Now, even some of the teachers look good.
