Dental Hygiene Schools In California

Question:
My wife just got back from the dentist and she says
that he has suggested "deep cleaning" her teeth? This
he says will cost the sum of $800? Is this correct?
Answer:
Deep cleaning is a misnomer. She is being treated for gum disease. A single
crown can cost about $800 to restore a single tooth. The doctor and hygienist
are restoring the entire mouth to health. I'm sorry you have to go through
this but that is the going price (more or less) for this procedure.
A lot of general dentists do not have a good non surgical program in
place and I would certainly ask them lots of questions or you could seek out
a periodontist (however many feel surgury is usually necessary). Root
planing or "deep cleaning" is very demanding and tiring for the dental
hygienist if she is doing it properly. In our office the patient is also
anesthetized, and nitrous oxide and video glasses are provided if necessary.
I believe that most insurance companies cover root planing at aproximately
80%. If economics are a problem you might want to check out the dental
hygiene schools in California. Treatment is very inexpensive and will be thorough-however
if time is a factor I wouldn't try a school setting. Good luck with your
treatment.
