Mercy school of nursing

Question:
After many years of searching for my perfect job I have decided to go with my childhood dream of becoming a vet. Starting in Sept. I will be attending Mercy College to get a degree in veterinary technology. Just wondering if anyone had any info on the program there, or on other programs in different schools that might be of use.
Answer:
I'm not personally familiar with Mercy, sorry - I'm just curious about your career plans. You say you are going with your childhood dream of becoming a vet, but then you say you're getting a degree in veterinary technology. Are you planning to be a tech for a while, and then go back to school to become a veterinarian? Or are you choosing veterinary technology as your final career? I'm just curious. I know a couple of licensed techs who did go back to vet school, but for most people the choice between nursing and doctoring is made much earlier.
I attend Mercy as a PT Vet Tech student and I find it to be great program.
VT101 will be PACKED this semester so make sure you are a few minutes early to class if you want a decent seat.
The atmosphere is very supportive and you will find a lot of students asking questions or relating stories (quite a few of them work in a vet office). Dr.
Burke has an unusual way of teaching the class -- the textbook is not really relied upon, so take very good notes -- but he is fascinating and personable.
You can always talk to him if you have any questions and the VT Dept. staff is nice.
BTW --if you would rather become a vet, as opposed to VT, you CAN major in
Pre-Vet.
There is also a Vet Tech club which meets every other week to organize fund raisers (hint: bake sales!) and p along information about what's going on with the VT Dept., etc. Diana usually runs it but she's in the process of
Ping the torch since she'll be graduating in December.
