New York nursing schools

Question:
I got this letter from a Regents grad who went on how highly accredited they are, despite some of the recent incidents. I don't live in the U.S., so I would greatly appreciate some guidance. The person goes on about who they are accredited by all of these private institutions, which really makes me suspect something. Anyhow, I've taken out their name, but left the rest of the letter to get some feedback.
Answer:
I don't know where you got the idea that Regents is not properly accredited.
In the United States, the highest form of institutional accreditation is awarded by six privately owned regional accrediting agencies.
(This is what regionally accredited means.) These agencies divide up U.S. colleges by state. The agency responsible for New York (where Regents resides) is the Middle States Association of Schools and Colleges.
Please take a moment to look at the online institution database of its
Commission on Higher Education (), where you may duly verify that Regents College is, in fact, accredited. While you’re there, you might verify that SUNY Empire State College -- which also resides in New York -- is accredited by the same agency.
Please note that in addition to its institutional accreditation, several of Regents College's programs are accredited by the Technology Accreditation Board (TAC) of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), a vocational accredited ().
Regents College's nursing programs also fulfill specific licensure requirements set forth in many states, including my own home state of Mississippi, which defines the BSN as being awarded by a residential university or Regents College. (I'm not kidding.)
I think that a certain amount of healthy skepticism is certainly warranted in dealing with nontraditional education, but you really should do some basic research on a school before pronouncing it unaccredited, disreputable, or the like.
The info in that letter is correct. And, as another who lives outside of USA
I can understand how you could think that there is something suspect in accreditation by private bodies. But that is the way in the good ole USA, and all of those bodies have the blessing of the USA Dept. of Ed, which makes them valid. To sum up, Regents is totally legit and well-regarded, and oriented to providing higher Ed' opportunities for experienced adult learners.
Two other institutions of similar quality and mission are Charter Oak State
College (COSC) and Thomas Edison State College (TESC). I have found in contacting TESC and COSC that TESC was the most responsive in getting back to me with materials, etc (a few days after talking with an advisor there), whereas I have been waiting for a mail response from COSC for over two weeks (after sending them two emails).
