Procedures necessary for becoming a nurse
|
Question:
What is the schooling and procedures necessary in becoming a nurse? You do have to go to nursing school right? Or stay in perhaps in a liberal arts college?
What about like a specific area of nursing? Like pediatrics, or delivery room nurse?
I am in a 4 yr college trying to get into their nursing program. However I can’t take a nursing course until I finish the prereqs. I’m basically done with all the prerequisites to the nursing but getting into the school doesn’t look to good. If I were to graduate here with all the prerequisites for a bachelors in nursing could I go to a 2 yr and get a bachelors? Since technically I did the 4 yr program.
If I get a bachelor's after 4 years of college in say communications, can I
go to nursing school after or would I have to major in something like biology?

There are 2 year nursing schools and then there are 4 yr colleges with nursing programs. The 2 yr gives you an associate’s degree, the 4 yr gives you a bachelors

I think you move onto that after your undergrad schooling.
Well you do have to go through a nursing program. If you already have a degree you can take a shorter course I believe the one here at Rush in
Chicago is 16 months if you already have a degree. Some community colleges have
Nursing programs too and u end up with an associate’s degree but still have to go through a real nursing program to get anywhere.

I didn't think 2 year schools could do Bachelor's degrees?
Maybe I’d have to go to a 4 year and just do the 2 yrs I don’t have? Now I’m worried. Cause if I can’t do a 2 yr I may as well transfer out of here to somewhere that I can get a nursing degree. I just really want a degree from here. I’ve been here long enough.

It really depends on your school. This is definitely something you'd want to talk to your particular school's counselor about because schools are so different. Some schools have a core curriculum that everyone has to have no matter what the major, others don't. Again, you'd need to talk to your counselor about that. They will be more helpful than anyone. Where you thinking of a communications major? If so, what? I was considering public relationions/advertising. I changed my mind though.
